Frequently Asked Questions (F A Q’s)

Why Job Search Tip Sheets?
For over 20 years, The Centre for Skills Development & Training has provided a vast array of programs and services to individuals who are looking for work and/or changing careers. We understand the challenge faced by individuals who are looking for work after a long period of employment, who are trying to find their first job in Canada, or who have been out of the workforce for a long time.

We also understand the challenge faced by practitioners when trying to find high quality job search resources that are Canadian based, up-to-date, cost effective, and easy to use.

The Centre’s primary goal in designing these Tip Sheets was to save both practitioners and customers time, money, and frustration caused by the need to refer to many different resources to gain a basic overview of job search topics.

How were the Job Search Tip Sheets Developed?
There were many steps involved in designing the Job Search Tip Sheets.

Step One – A group of professional employment specialists created the first draft of each tip sheet, based on hands-on knowledge from years of working directly with job seekers and career changers.

Step Two – A panel of experts reviewed each tip sheet carefully to assess readability. Principles and practices of plain language were applied and revisions made to ensure that a broad range of customers; including literacy learners, newcomers to Canada, youth, and older adults, would all find the information readable, accessible and easy to understand.

Step Three – A graphic designer created an appealing design for each tip sheet that is both eye-catching and easy to follow.

Step Four – A panel of employment specialists reviewed the tip sheets again to ensure the information remained true to the original intent – providing the ‘best of the best’ information on each job search topic.

Step Five – Based on feedback, the graphic designer made further revisions to ensure the tip sheets were consistent in design, language, and appearance.

From start to finish, at least 20 hours was spent on each tip sheet and more than 500 hours went into developing the whole series of 24.
