Free skilled trades information sessions to be held in Mississauga

Burlington, ON: The Centre for Skills Development & Training will be holding free information sessions at its Mississauga location to inform potential students about a new skilled trades program. The information sessions will focus on the new Tool & Die/Millwright program, which is being offered in partnership with Martinrea International. Students who excel in the program will be offered apprenticeships with Martinrea.

The Martinrea Tool & Die/Millwright program consists of 26 weeks of training at the fully equipped machine shop at The Centre in Burlington, and 9 weeks paid and monitored work placement at a Martinrea division in the Mississauga/Brampton area. The program features a combination of in-class and hands-on, shop floor training, with a focus on developing both technical and employability skills.

“Manufacturing in the new economy requires a solid set of skills,” said Kathy Mills, Chief Administrative Officer of The Centre. “The Martinrea Tool & Die/Millwright Program trains students in two trades, which increases employment opportunities.”

A global leader in the production of quality metal parts, assemblies and modules, and of fluid management systems, Martinrea International is a Tier 1 automotive supplier and supplier to other industrial sectors. The company employs thousands of people at divisions in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Europe.

“We are proud of our partnership with Martinrea International,” continued Mills. “Through this program, 20 students will have the opportunity to train for a rewarding career in a progressive manufacturing company.”

The information sessions are being held from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20; Wednesday, February 10; and Wednesday, March 3, at 33 City Centre Drive, Suite 201 in Mississauga. To register or for more information about the program, call 905-333-3499 or 1-888-315-5521 (toll free) ext. 121 or email trades@thecentre.on.ca.
