Celebrate Skilled Trades Week with The Centre

Burlington, ON: The Centre for Skills Development & Training is celebrating Skilled Trades Week in Canada (November 3–7) with two open house events. Youth, parents and the public are invited to drop by The Centre at the Bay Area Learning Centre at 860 Harrington Court in Burlington to find out more about the skilled trades. Everyone is welcome!

Thursday, November 6, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.: Community open house.
Enjoy refreshments, tours of the facility and information about pre-apprenticeship programs. Talk to instructors and students. Gifts and prizes to be won.

Friday, November 7, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.: See the trades in action!
Teams of students battle in a friendly trades competition.

“There is a significant opportunity to turn the current skilled tradesperson shortage into a rewarding career, but so many young people aren’t aware of their options or the kinds of career paths available to them,” says Kathy Mills, Chief Administrative Officer at The Centre. “Skilled Trades Week is an excellent opportunity for aspiring apprentices to learn how to build a great future with the trades.”

The Centre offers pre-apprenticeship programs in Home Renovations, Residential Construction, Enhanced General Carpentry for Women, Electrical, Millwright/Precision Machining, CNC Operator and Electrical/Millwright. On November 6 and 7, visitors will see the trades in action through demonstrations of skills, tools, and machines. They will also be able to talk to students and instructors, and take tours of the facility.

Skilled Trades Week is promoted by Skills/Compétences Canada to raise awareness of the importance of skilled trades careers to the overall economy, and that they are an excellent career path for young Canadians.
