New Program Pays Youth to Get Focused on Careers

Burlington, ON - The Centre for Skills Development & Training, a leading Halton provider of career training and development programs, is launching an exciting new career focus program for youth called Get in Gear!

This new 12-week program, the most recent in a series of youth focused programs developed by The Centre, provides individuals between the ages of 17 and 30 with the chance to develop key employability skills while learning about career opportunities, particularly those in the high demand skilled trades field.

Through a combination of Interest and Aptitude Assessments, Hands-On Activities and Projects, and Job Shadowing opportunities, participants learn not only what it takes to succeed in the working world but also what skilled trade or other career path is right for them. To help guide them to future success, each participant will also receive a detailed, step-by-step, post- program action plan.

"We believe very strongly in the importance of youth focused programs," says Nancy Moore, Senior Programs Manager at The Centre. "One of the biggest challenges youth face today is finding their focus. Many don't know or are unsure about what they want to do for a living. This program not only helps them find that focus, it helps them develop critical employability skills and gives them the opportunity to determine whether or not the skilled trades, in particular, is right for them."

Thanks to funding support provided by the Federal Government, the program is being offered on a no fee basis and provides participants with an income for the entire 12 weeks of the program.

Limited to just 20 participants, Get in Gear begins on November 7th and takes place at The Centre's main location at 860 Harrington Court in Burlington. Information sessions will be held on October 5th, 12th and 19th at 6:00 pm.
