New Program Helps Youth Find
Career Focus
Burlington,
ON - The Centre for Skills Development
& Training (The Centre) is proud to announce the
launch of an exciting new career-planning program for
youth: Career Focus for Youth.
This new, one-week program, designed for individuals
between the ages of 16 and 25, guides youth through
a step-by-step process and helps them to identify and
plan for meaningful careers.
Modeled after The Centre’s very successful Career
Explorations program, which has helped over 1,800
adults find career direction, Career Focus for Youth
includes personality, interest and aptitude assessments,
guidance and support from a certified employment counsellor
and the development of a detailed, step-by-step “Career
Action Plan”. Participants also gain access to
The Centre’s Bay
Area Employment Resource Centre, which is staffed
by three dedicated career specialists and contains a
comprehensive array of career decision-making and job
search tools.
“One of the things we’ve often heard from
participants in our Career Explorations program is how
much they wish the program had been available to them
when they were younger,” says Nancy Moore, Manager
of Career, Business and Education Services at The Centre.
“The fact is that few people actually plan their
careers. Most of us either stumble into them or else
spend 10 years or more moving from job to job trying
to find something that fits. In many cases, this results
in a great deal of frustration and brings with it significant
income and lifestyle implications. By making this program
available to youth, we believe that we can help them
avoid this trap and get them on their way to leading
happier and more prosperous and productive lives!”
The program is limited to just 20 participants per
session, with the first session scheduled to start on
Monday July 12, 2004.
In addition to the Career Focus for Youth program,
The Centre is also offering a Multi-Media for Teens
program and its very popular Driver
Education program.
