I.T. Technician

Start Date: March 1, 2010
Schedule: 35 hours per week
Rate: $25.39 / hour
Reports to: I.T. Manager
Location: Burlington (frequent travel to 6 satellite sites throughout Halton and Peel)

Overview: The IT technician works closely with the Information Technology team to ensure that strong desktop support is available for staff, clients and students at The Centre including: 1) a stable desktop environment for staff that includes up-to-date software and virus checking tools; 2) hardware fixes and configuration; 3) timely and appropriate user support; 4) implementation of IT Policies and Procedures. This is a position will report to the IT Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot computers and related equipment for all Centre programs and projects
  • Liaise with Graphic Designer and assist with web page development when required
  • Liaise with 3rd party vendors when required to assist with network/server modifications
  • Diagnose hardware and software problems and provide recommendations for upgrades to computers and related equipment
  • Identify client support requirements and ensure team efforts are focused on providing end users with hardware and software support with appropriate company standard equipment
  • Install software and computer upgrades and workstation printing functionality
  • Maintain troubleshooting work plan to provide on-going technical support to all staff and programs in a fair and timely manner
  • Install and configure Symantec Endpoint on all workstations in the organization and Steadystate on all public computers in the organization
  • Re-image workstations when required
  • Provide staff in-service on the mechanics of hardware/software use when required
  • Assist with education of staff regarding technology best practices
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of hardware and software standardization, security, disaster recovery, service provision, asset management
  • Recover files from backup when necessary
  • Participate in the design and administration of Sharepoint WSS collaborative site
  • Assist with telephone issues when required
  • Respond to task schedule as outlined by the IT Administrator and IT Manager
  • Keep current with the latest technologies
  • Other duties, as assigned, related to the smooth running of Centre technology

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of network and workstation hardware and software
  • Post-secondary education
  • Certification as a computer technician
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft desktop and server operating systems, the Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Sharepoint Services, HTML, software installation, workstations imaging, Windows LAN and WAN environments
